Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Probashi Bhai ("we", "us") publishes the Probashi Bhai app: news (including job news), flight search, a VPN, short videos and notifications for Bangladeshis living abroad, and the news website probashibhai.com. For privacy questions or requests, write to [email protected].

2. Information we process

Anonymous account and device

On first launch the app creates a random installation identifier (not a hardware identifier) and signs in anonymously; you get a random handle such as 8979886ksapb. With each sign-in we receive the app version and build, Android version, device brand and model, app language and time zone, and the country your connection comes from (from the IP address, through our network provider) so the app can start with your country of residence until you pick one. No name, phone number or email address is required.

Profile you choose to add

Optional display name, photo, email address, phone or WhatsApp number, country and city of residence, language, interests, notification preferences and quiet hours. Favourite VPN countries stay on your phone only.

What you do in the app

Screens you open, articles and videos you open, how far you watch each video (start, watch time, completion, skips, "show fewer like this"), likes, bookmarks and shares, searches you run and flight searches (route, dates, passengers, cabin), notifications received and opened, and VPN connect / disconnect events, each with a random session identifier. We use them to run the app, to rank the video feed and news for you (your recent watching builds a per-topic interest profile that fades over time), and to measure notification campaigns. Search text is used only to return results and is not kept as a history on our servers.

Notifications

A Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can deliver the notifications you allowed, and the read / opened state of the messages in your in-app inbox.

VPN

When you connect, we process the server you chose, the connection start and end times and why it ended, the amount of data transferred, and your device's public WireGuard key and tunnel address, which our VPN gateways need to build the tunnel. We do not log the websites you visit, your DNS queries or the content of your traffic, and the VPN is never used to inject or redirect traffic. The gateways are operated for us by our VPN infrastructure provider.

Flights

Your search is sent through our server to our flight search partner to fetch prices. Bookings happen on the partner's or airline's own website under their terms and privacy policy; we never see payment details.

Advertising

The app is free and is paid for by ads from Google AdMob: banner and native ads (always labelled as ads), full-screen ads at natural breaks such as between videos or when you open the app, and optional rewarded ads that you choose to watch in return for a reward, such as extra VPN time or a run of videos without ads. When ads are on, Google's Mobile Ads SDK collects your device's advertising ID and app set ID, your IP address and the coarse location derived from it, basic information about your device and the app, your interactions with ads (views, taps, rewards) and diagnostic data about ad loading. Google uses this information to deliver, limit, measure and, where allowed, personalise ads, and to detect fraud and abuse. Your consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent message (Google's User Messaging Platform, a Google-certified consent tool) before any ad is requested. Personalised ads are shown only if you agree. If you do not, Google shows non-personalised or limited ads, which are not based on your past activity but still use information such as your IP address for coarse location, frequency capping, measurement and fraud prevention. You can review or change your choice at any time in the app under Settings → Ad privacy options.

Everywhere. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or turn off ads personalisation, in Android settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your phone); Google then stops using it for personalised ads in this app. Depending on where you live (for example in some US states) you may have the right to opt out of targeted advertising; deleting the advertising ID or turning off ads personalisation does this for the ads in our app. The VPN never injects ads into your traffic or into other apps, and we do not sell your personal information.

Measuring our own ads. We advertise the app on Facebook and Instagram. To know which installs came from those ads, the app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK from version 1.1.13. It reports to Meta that the app was installed and opened, and a few milestone events (finishing the first-run setup, the first news article or video actually watched, a VPN connection, a flight search or hand-off to a flight provider) together with your device's advertising ID, basic device and app information and your IP address. Meta uses this to attribute installs to our ads, to measure and optimise the ads we buy, and otherwise under the Meta Privacy Policy. The SDK is not used for login or sharing, and we never send it your name, email address, phone number or anything you type. The advertising-ID controls above limit this measurement too.

Analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (screens, feature use, crashes and errors reported by the app) so we can improve it. The data is pseudonymous and aggregated; Firebase may use the advertising ID unless ad personalisation is off.

Technical logs

Our servers keep short-lived technical logs (IP address, request time, user agent, errors) for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.

3. How we use information

To provide the app's features and remember your choices; to show content for your country, language and interests; to send the notifications you allowed and measure how they perform; to show, cap and measure ads, to ask for and respect your ad consent where the law requires it, and to prevent ad fraud; to keep the service secure and prevent abuse; and to understand and improve the app. We do not sell personal information.

4. Who we share information with

Our hosting, network, flight and VPN providers process data only to provide their service to us. Google receives data from the Firebase and AdMob SDKs and uses it under the Google Privacy Policy, as explained in the Advertising section above; in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the consent message lists the ad technology providers Google works with. Meta receives the install and milestone events described under "Measuring our own ads" and uses them under the Meta Privacy Policy. We also disclose information when the law requires it or to protect the service and its users. Some providers process data outside your country of residence; we rely on their contractual and security commitments.

5. Retention

Account and profile data stay until you delete your account. Watch history and interest scores fade and are removed within about 90 days of inactivity. Technical logs are kept for up to 30 days. Aggregated statistics that cannot identify you may be kept longer.

6. Your choices and rights

You can change your country, language, interests, notification preferences and quiet hours in the app at any time, turn notifications off in Android settings, and clear recent searches in Settings. For ads, you can reset or delete the advertising ID or turn off ads personalisation in Android settings, and in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland change your consent in the app under Settings → Ad privacy options. Rewarded ads are always optional.

Delete your account: in the app, open Settings → Account → Delete my account. Your profile and contact details, preferences, notification history, bookmarks, likes, watch history and interests, flight searches, VPN sessions and photo are deleted from our servers at once; the app then continues with a new anonymous account. You can also request deletion at probashibhai.com/apps/delete-account or by email. Depending on where you live you may also have rights to access, correct, export or object to the processing of your data; write to us and we will answer within 30 days.

7. Security

All connections use HTTPS. On your phone, sign-in tokens and the VPN key are stored encrypted with the Android Keystore. Access to our systems is restricted and logged.

8. Children

Probashi Bhai is made for adults living abroad: you must be 18 or older to use it. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version; important changes will be announced in the app.
